Hi Mumma! Congratulations!

Welcome to what is going to be one of the most unique and beautiful seasons of life (and movement). We are very passionate about the power of Pilates to keep you strong throughout your pregnancy and prepare you for the healthiest, most empowered birth possible. Our approach is personalised, hands on directed towards having you moving both powerfully and safely.

To ensure this, we require all pregnant clients to undertake at least one private session with us prior to returning to/joining class. This allows us to assess your body and provide you all of the knowledge and tricks you’ll need up your sleeve to perform Pilates whilst pregnant.

What to expect

Each trimester offers new changes and challenges for your body. Whilst the way we approach Pilates remains consistent throughout, here are some of the main adjustments we observe and cater for in your movement at each trimester.

Please note that each body is unique and that these assessments are generalisations only.

  • Here you are likely to experience the least amount of obvious anatomical changes but are likely to experience different energy levels and begin to feel a little different in your Pilates movement. We will begin to teach you how to recruit your correctly for pregnancy and adapt away from certain exercises and body positions.

  • The second trimester is there more obvious changes to the spine and alignment begin to occur. Muscle recruitment, balance and endurance starts to change and we are working to ensure you feel strong, safe and aligned. Many of the same adaptations from the first trimester remain with potentially some further substitutions to accommodate your growing bump.

  • The third trimester is all about preparing you for birth, maintaining strength and preventing any late term pregnancy pain. This is where we might start to take the pace down a touch and focus on stability, breath and controlled movement.

Dubbed the fourth trimester, and arguably the most important, your post partum season is a time of repair and reconditioning while adjusting to all the weird and wonderful changes that have occurred throughout your pregnancy. After your six week medical clearance, we welcome you back into Pilates with a private session first, to asses your pregnancy and delivery recovery and ensure correct core recruitment. We will skilfully guide you every step of the way.
